Simple Things

I don't need your big favors.
I can renovate my house,
I can buy a new car,
I can fix my life.

But I need those simple things:

To hear the sound of your busy steps
slow down and stop when you see me,
to feel your hand on my shoulder.

I need a phone call or email,
a box of my favorite chocolate.

I need to see compassion in your eyes
when my best efforts were not enough.

I need you to tell me that you care.
I don't need diamond rings
but I need a cup of coffee.
I need your simple acts.
